Previously, Dr. Joshua Zake (Ph.D.) worked at Environmental Alert, where he served under the following capacities: Executive Director, (1st March 2016 to 31st December 2021); Programme Director (2015/2016); Program Manager (for the period 2014 to 2015); Senior Program Officer Environment and Natural Resources and Coordinator of the Uganda Forest Working Group (2008-2011); Program Officer Environment and Natural Resources (2006-2008); Farming Expert for a project on Integrated Nutrient Management (2002-2006).

Furthermore, he successfully conducted several professional consultancies in agriculture, environment & natural resources management and climate change adaptation & mitigation issues for various clients from private sector, government institutions and civil society in Uganda and East Africa. Through these works he published several publications (over 50) including: scientific journal articles, technical reports, case studies, policy briefs, issues papers, posters, monographs, videos, and conference & workshop presentations.

He serves as an External Examiner for Makerere University, College of Agriculture and Environmental Sciences since 2018. Thus, have examined more than 10 theses for Masters and Doctoral students of Makerere University, College of Agriculture and Environmental Sciences since 2018. He also served as an External reviewer for international peer reviewed Journals (such as: the International Journal of Disaster Risk Reduction; Climate Research).

Besides, he has conducted critical reviews for various Government of Uganda documents such as policy, plans, study reports in the agriculture, environment, water, natural resources, climate change, renewable energy sub-sectors. He has also reviewed program and project concepts and proposals for development projects addressing issues in the Agriculture (sustainable agriculture, agroecology, organic agriculture, Regenerative agriculture and Regenerative grazing), Water and Environment sectors and the associated recommendations for decision making on the most suitable proposals or concepts, as a member of the technical task force of experts.
